I love the swollen curves that cocoons the young life inside. I wanted somehow to capture this act of nature on paper, but not with a billowy background such as ones I have made in other paintings. I wanted the world around her affected by the giving of life through her body, yet I made it a slightly dark and ominous world, for pregnancy, for all it’s life-giving, is often painful, frightening, and makes for an unsure future.
