GICLEE
- Giclee (gee-clay), from the French "a spraying of ink," is a recently developed form of digital printmaking, Fine art giclees most often begin with an original painting that is photographed by a digital camera and input into a computer. All the manipulation of the image, color corrections and other necessary procedures are done in the computer with specially designed software. The reproduction is then printed on a four-color Iris Ink Jet Printer. The process can achieve millions of colors, most of which appear brighter than the colors of offset reproductions. The reproduction of delicate pastel colors is particularly outstanding with this advanced technology; a giclee of a transparent watercolor original can rival the original.
- Early problems with digital fine art printmaking-- specifically, the instability of the inks used have been resolved. The ability of the giclee process to reproduce prints with a high level of consistency over a long period of time makes it a desirable method for original art reproduction.
Giclée prints render deep, saturated colours and have a beautiful painterly quality that retains minute detail, subtle tints and blends. A variety of substrates can be used. This includes the archival watercolour papers, such as Arches, Somerset, glossy paper and cotton duck canvas. The prints may be hand embellished by the artist using paint, ink and gold foil stamping for mixed media effect. This printing process offers the highest degree of accuracy, and richness of color available through reproduction. The superior quality of Giclee prints has allowed them to be showcased in the finest of galleries and museums.
The production of a giclée print is not an automatic process. The human touch is critical in several phases of the giclée process. First, giclée prints begin as original art. Second, the work is scanned into the computer, where it is colour corrected. That colour correction requires and experienced eye and touch in making the proper adjustments in tone, contrast, sharpness and other factors. During thw process It takes tim for artist to check and discuss with the giclee producers.
This canvas giclee print is a superb reproduction of the original colors and captures the mood and color perfectly.
This is a signed and numbered limited edition print which uses archival inks of the highest standard guaranteed against fading for sixty years.
The edition size is 99.
