What Is the Past, After All
Heywood & Donna's St...
The image that came to me after I'd begun the background was empty buildings and dead smokestacks. The painting goes out over the old frame, which had damaged corners I simply painted over. The title is from an introduction to a collection of essays by John Updike called "Pigeon Feathers," where he says, "What is the past, after all, but a long dark tunnel out of which a few bright lights shine."
All Heywood's paintings are in a small gallery in Burley, Idaho and can be seen at almost any time by appointment - e-mail the artist at ppgfh@hotmail.com.
