BIO-DATA OF PROF. P S SAWHNEY

1. Visiting faculty: (i) Technical Teachers’ Training Institute, Chandigarh.
(ii) Parkland College, Urbana-Champaign, Illinois (USA).
(iii) Columbus Technical Institute, Columbus, Ohio (USA).

2. Social Service: Designed & constructed a major bridge on Godavari costing about 22 lacs (1967-69). It is a noble specimen of Social Service as the entire project has been executed by KAR SEVA and voluntary donations, was awarded commemoration certificate by the Govt. Of Maharashtra

3. Original Research work: As a result of my original research work the following revolutionary Patents have been granted by the Indian Patent Office, Kolkata.

Based upon my original research work he had been nominated for:
(i) The Second Japan prize in 1982.
(ii) Mahavir award in Education.
(iii) Kalidas award in fine arts.

4. Publication on Patents: (i) Typical questions of Inventors Answered.
(ii) Salient features of the Indian patent system.
(iii) Salient features of the American Patent system.
(iv) Salient features of the Canadian Patent system.
(v) What, why and how of Patents?
(vi) How to secure a Patent?

5. He is the author of four books on Engineering and one on Law, and one on Communication Skill.

6. He had been (i) an Expert on the panel of the Northern Region Committee of the all India Council of Technical Education & is a (ii) Life member of the Indian Society of Technical Education, (iii) Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India).(iv) Life member of the Indian Science Congress.

7. Has traveled extensively has participated in programmes conducted by World Bank, Singapore Staff College for Technician Education & World Congress of Engineers and delivered expert lectures on:

(i) Patents,
(ii) Low Cost Housing and
(iii) Open University… to various august gatherings in the country & also in USA and
Canada, on a UNDP assignment.

8. Sculpting has been his childhood hobby and he indulges in the same as and when time permits due to his multifarious activities. Apart from visiting great traditional Indian masters to study the dieing Indian Art of Dhokra Casting. He was in residency at the Garhi Studios of the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi.

He is the only Indian artist who has secured a Hat-trick by exhibiting his ware in the India International Trade Fair-2001, 2002, & 2003. Till date he has held 12 solo exhibitions, till date.

His immortal sculpture of “FASTING SIDDHARATHA”, made in Panch Loha is so highly valued in the International Art market that he has sought insurance cover for the same.

His wall sculpture of Sir M.Visvesvaraya stands installed in the Institution of Engineers (India), Nagpur Centre and another one titled: “GANDHI MANTRAM” stands installed in the Gandhi Bhavan of Punjab University, Chandigarh.

His series of sculptures titled:” YOGIC THERAPY” has been installed in Kaivalyadham Yoga Research Centre, Lonavala.

His specialization: Casting in Panch Loha and Asha Dhatu, & special patina.
