Thank you in taking the time to view my galleries, I hope you enjoyed my various examples of work most of which are for sale.
I was born and lived in Liverpool up until the mid 90s, moving to North Yorkshire before settling here in Belfast. Painting has always been a part of my life, from an early age I have had a passion for capturing railway scenes. These early paintings were noticed by my art teacher, who saw potential in my work, so encouraging me to enroll into the local Art College.
A two year foundation course was followed by a three year course in Technical & Scientific illustration. Here I gained an analytical eye and the application of medium skills were fine tuned. These attributes have been crucial when creating highly detailed paintings.
At present I work as a technical illustrator with an aircraft company producing maintenance manuals for the aircraft they build, I paint in my spare time.
My recent paintings reflect a lifelong love of British Railways. I particularly try to capture the essence of a scene. Motion, atmosphere and realism are all important ingredients to a composition. A considerable amount of time is taken up in research, this is important for a painting to look right, I try to make my artwork as accurate as possible a lot of the steam train scenes occurred years before my time! Getting the detail correct can be challenging, many hours can be spent on each painting.
At present I will consider accepting commission work, by contacting me with your ideas and views I would be pleased to produce a painting in a similar style to the examples shown in my galleries.
Currently I am working on more paintings, mainly watercolour but there are a few oil colour canvasses in the pipeline.
