Visual Artist / Sports Artist Biography for
Dale E. McFarland
1980-2010
Dale McFarland specializes in the beautiful and striking effects with his graphite portrait drawings. His realistic detailed illustrations depicting sports and non sports portrait art are enjoyed by collectors of all ages worldwide. He is a "RED" ribbon winning artist at “THE GREAT STONEBORO FAIR” 2009 for his #58 Jack Lambert pencil drawing. As a young artist Dale studied the art of cartoon drawing. His cartoon studies taught him the importance of the line in a drawing. Dale is a 1977 graduate of Sharon Senior High School Sharon Pa. Attending Ivy School of Art in Pittsburgh Pa; he studied Advertising Design, and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in 1980.
Dale’s started drawing at the age of five years old; his freelance visual art career spans thirty years. Most of that time has been spend working with young artist to help their Visual Art dreams become a way of life. At one time Dale was working with over 200 Visual Art Students in Western Pa. His Visual art classes were held at the Valley Arts Guild, Hoyt Institute of Art, and the F.H. Buhl Club. His cartoon character (The Color Friends) have help teach kids colors, shapes, numbers, and counting for over twenty years in Sharon city schools. In 2010 Dale plans to republish his pre-k book under the business name of Tiger Paws Publishing. You can see both FREE pre-K books on this website. Presently Dale is using drawing pencils or color pencils on color drawing papers or Bristol board for his sport portrait art. Dale creates depth and movement through the use of perspective, rich tones and strong drawing techniques with added touches that only a cartoonist could know. He begins with research and photograph studies of his subject(s). Next he explores various creative approaches with a series of how to notes in his mind’s eye and on paper. These notes are refined and ultimately lead to a final line-composition (RED LINE DARAWING). Using an HB, 2B, and B drawing pencil the final rendering begins. Each subject can require 25 to 100 hours or more to complete a large 11”x14” pencil drawing. Dale draws his inspiration from a life-long passion for visual art and sports. When he is not at his drawing board Dale enjoys River Fishing, Par-3 Golf, working on his home, and vintage Aurora monster model building. Each monster model takes 25-35 hours; Dale has collected Aurora Monster models for over twenty five years. Check out his Aurora monster model, and Polar Lights model collection on this site. Dale McFarland owns and operates Shock Monster Art & Collectibles (S.M.A.C.) Hermitage Pa. This Business is a wholesaler and retailer of Unofficial Sport Portrait Art Prints, Custom Portrait Art. Dale’s Open Editions signed and dated Steelers Art Prints and other Sports Art Prints are sold at Daffin's Candies and Gifts in Sharon Pa; and at all the Daffin's store locations. The DAFFIN'S retail price of framed Sport Art Prints is $19.95 each; the Sports Art Prints are sold monthly at Daffin's Candies and Gifts year round. Other retailers of unsigned Dale’s Sports Art Prints are Kraynak’s in Hermitage Pa.
Pat Catan's stores in Pa. and Ohio also carry the Steeler BLACK & GOLD 11x14 Art Prints. Each Sports Art Print comes in a PVC holder with a COA printed on the back of the item; they cost $14.97 each. You can buy frames or have your Steelers Art Print costumed framed for your sports art collection. This past year fourteen retail stores sold Sports Art Prints drawn by Dale McFarland. S.M.A.C. sold 700 - 800 prints wholesale in 2009. Dale's sports and non sport portrait work is on display in many other businesses in the Sharon and Hermitage Pa. area. Five to eight "NEW" works are added each year. Now available a NEW product called Black & Gold Clings.
