This diptych is meant to show one particular passage in the rhythm of the history of art. The left panel is based on the "minimalist" wing of Art Deco, centered in Europe, which reached its peak probably in the 1930's. (For your reference I should note that there was more sculpture than painting in this genre.) The right panel is meant to show how this vision had progressed by the 1950's principally in the U.S.
