Wayne's World
Wayne RotenI was born in Los Angeles to a jazz musician father and an opera singing mother. Listening to "live" music from birth, fused itself into my soul and led me in a creative direction.

I began surfing at the age of 12 years, I was fascinated by the drawings of Rick Griffin and John Severson of Surfer Magazine. I tried to copy their styles. By the time I entered college, I was greatly influenced by Peter Max, Warhol, H.R. Geiger and Salvador Dali.

Strangely enough, after I graduated from Cal State, I got a job as a Private Investigator, as I was not making much of a living from my artistic endeavors. I eventually started my own P.I. Agency and rarely painted.

Then one night I read about an Annual Surfer Magazine Collage Contest. Just for the heck of it, I whipped out a collage in about a half hour. I sent the piece to Surfer Magazine. I had forgotten about it, when one night I was thumbing through an issue at a local store. To my shock and amazement, I found that I had placed 4th out of 75,000 entrees worldwide. A lightbulb went off in my head and I realized I should paint things that make me happy, like surfing. I began churning out two to three paintings a week. Through word of mouth and some advertising, I started to make a name for myself. Since then, I have found that being an artist, I've met famous people, gone to places I used to dream about and I've become a much happier person.

My work has been displayed at the International Surfing Museum, auctioned at the Surfriders Foundation Annual Gala. I was recently picked to display my current mixed media style on HGTV. As an addenum, I just had one of my paintings grace the cover of Longboard Magazine's Annual Surf Art Issue. I am truly humbled by this great honor. In recent days, I've noticed that more and more Russian countries are checking out my site. To all my Russian friends, please feel free to purchase a print. I'll give you a special discount on shipping costs.

Like every artist, I would like to be able to support my family through my art. I really don't care about fame, although I think one follows the other. To me, Art is like Music. It can raise a person's like conditition and can bring them happiness. These are things I hope to achieve as an artist.
