 Born in Jacksonville Florida in 1954, Tawes was that kid in the back of the classroom who was always caught drawing and getting into trouble for it. Now, this self-taught left-hander still gets caught doing artwork and has mastered his talent by sheer tenacity. Tawes achieved his position as a contemporary artist with dedication and exceptional creativity. Tawes' energetic body of work communicates a bold statement that has found favor with collectors throughout the United States and abroad.
Years of success in the South and Midwest resulted with a style that has appeal to an expansive intellect. After an invitation to Manhattan resulted in strong sales in his first SoHo Gallery show, Tawes’ understood that true passion speaks a common language.
In 1999 American icon LeRoy Neiman viewed Tawes' work and agreed "his work shows direction and truth.”
Tawes now serves as the First Pioneer Artist in the Glasstown Arts District in Millville, New Jersey, with TAWES STUDIO located in the Amethyst Gallery at 214 North High Street.
