Optional Varnish Application
ABSTRACT ART BY SHAR...
To Varnish or Not To Varnish? That is the question.
I offer paintings using the highest quality paints/pigments with lightfast ratings of 1 (there are a few purples that are rated 2). With a lightfast rating of 1, you can expect your painting to last 50+ years under normal environmental conditions.
What are "normal" conditons? Any home or office environment where the temperature and humidity stay relatively stable and the painting is not exposed to direct sunlight (i.e. placed right in front of a window). Gradual seasonal changes in temperature and humidity will not affect your artwork.
If you will be hanging your painting near a window that gets sunlight, I recommend that you have a UV protectant (varnish) applied to protect your investment.
Varnish also adds a nice layer of protection against dirt and grime. If your painting will be hanging in an area where it could be soiled by food/wine, varnish is definately indicated.
However, Varnishing is totally OPTIONAL.
Due to the expense of product and labor intensity, I charge a small fee for this service. It is only 10% of the price of the painting to apply a non-yellowing professional grade varnish to your art.
Please let me know if you would like me to add this to your invoice.
With the professional grade of paint I use you will be receiving gallery quality artwork that should last a lifetime. The decision to varnish is totally yours.
