Since leaving school in 1988 I have done a lot. Immediately after leaving I spent 2 years at Canterbury College in Kent on a National Btech Diploma course in computers. Then, after a short 9 month stay at a residential home in Folkestone I decided to up sticks and move back to Yorkshire, guess its true what they say:- “You can take the Yorkshire man out of Yorkshire but you can’t take Yorkshire out of the man..”.
I bought a bungalow in Oakworth and have been there ever since. Since then I’ve appeared on the children’s art program “Heart Beat” in 1992. Thanks to a lovely person I came to know soon after moving up to Oakworth I discovered India and have visited this wonderfully enlightening country about 18 times now. I have written a book showing how to cope with modern-day life whilst keeping unhappiness at bay and have also spent about 7 years working on a PC game, which I’m very proud to say, ended up on the shelves of UK PC outlets.
More recently I have embarked upon a degree at Bradford University, namely a BSc Computer Animation and Special Effects. Currently at the end of my first year, I am pleased to report straight As.
My pastel work has always been there and about though and I do feel hugely privileged that the late PKC Jackson was my God-Father and very very dear friend. He and his family helped me throughout my life, especially after moving To Oakworth across the valley from them. The help and advice Ken gave me with my painting has been the sole reason why I am at the level that I am at now.
Though relatively unknown in the art world at present, Ken's name and art work will increase in popularity to a global scale, this I have no doubt. Within the small circles that knew of his outstanding work, such as ‘the French pastel society’, critiques rightly proclaimed him to be one of the best pastel artists of our time. I would go further to suggest he was one of most talented all round artists in this era as well as being one of the nicest people I have been lucky enough to know.
One of his daughters, Abigail Rhodes, recently decided to pick up the brush again after more than 20 years. Her work is excellent and well a look. You can also see and buy a print of Ken’s marvelous ‘The Railway Children’ Oil painting. Please follow the link below.
