Virgin and Child with a Goldfinch
The Ran Collection
The Virgin and Child with a Goldfinch is created by Neroccio di Bartolomeo de Landi, Italian, in 1485-1495. Neroccio de Landi was a painter and sculptor of the Early Italian Renaissance. He continued the elegant and refined tradition and his work is particularly noted for its delicate coloring.
His drawing is always subtle and light, the colors do not glow with varnish, but enchant with their opaque effect. Neroccio seems to have wanted to express the nobility of the human face and the elegance of gestures in his paintings.
He was not interested in use of many innovations of the first half of the 15th century, although he employed the devices of perspective and used light and shadow in the modeling of his figures. He rather worked on means and beauty of detail then being worried about new techniques and styles.
The original of Virgin and Child with a Goldfinch is contributed by Cleveland Museum of Art, Ohio, USA, with a providence lead to London. Nevertheless, Katrin Schwarz replicated the painting from the other source, with different colors of background, and the title on the back of the wooden board says "Madonna and Child", with the name of Neroccio de Landi on it. The painting is done in 2004 and sanctified in Jerusalem, Israel, in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (the Church of Resurrection). The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is one of the holiest places in the world for Christians, who come here for 2000 years to visit the place where Jesus of Nazareth died, was buried, and rose back.
