Pietro Perugino (1446-1524), or Vannucci, Italian painter, was born in 1446 at Citta della Pieve in Umbria, and belongs to the Umbrian school of painting. The name of Perugino came to him from Perugia, the main city of the region. Evidence say that he studied in the atelier of Andrea del Verrocchio, where Leonardo de Vinci was also a pupil. He learned perspective, in which he was mastering for that period of art, from Piero de Franceschi. Pietro at this time was extremely poor; he had no bed, but slept on a chest for many months, and never after was fond of comfort and luxury, even when becoming famous not only throughout Italy but beyond. He was one of the earliest Italian painters to practise oil-painting instead of egg-tempera; in this new media he brilliantly evinced a depth and smoothness of tint. The works of Perugino are the priceless artifacts that belong to the most famous Christian Italian institutions, art museums and university collections in Europe and USA.
The replica of the painting, made by Katrin Schwarz in 2003, is sanctified in Jerusalem, Israel, in the Church of Holy Sepulchre (the Church of Resurrection). Church of the Holy Sepulchre is one of the holiest places in the world for Christians, who come here for 2000 years to visit the place where Jesus of Nazareth died, was buried, and rose back. The certificate of the church can be found at the back of the wooden board.
