Crusifiction
The Ran Collection

This is the icon from St. Catherine Monastery, Sinai, Egypt. The gallery of the monastery obtains of 150 icons representing a unique collection as well as an exceptional spiritual, historical, and art value. 12 very rare and very old icons are written with wax paints and belong to 6 century.
The execution crucifixion on the cross was very shameful, very painful and very cruel. That death were executed at that time only the most notorious criminals: thieves, murderers, insurgents and criminal slaves, and among them the innocent Jesus. Pain of crucified man is impossible to describe. In addition to intolerable pain throughout the body, crucified experienced terrible thirst and spiritual deadly melancholy. You can not describe the grief of the Mother of God, who saw unendurable agony of her Son.
Jesus saw his mother and John's, who he especially loved, and said his mother: "Genot, behold, your son." Then said to John: "Behold, thy mother". Since that time, John took the mother of God to his house and cared about it until the end of her life.
During the suffering of the Savior on Golgotha there was a great sign. From that hour, as the Savior was crucified, i.e. from the sixth hour (as in our account with the twelfth hour of the day), solar eclipse and there was darkness throughout the land, and continued until his death Savior.
Church calls for the observance of Good Friday rigorous post. Ministers of the day put the most dark pall.
Divine Liturgy on Good Friday occurs. But after noon, believers are trying to come to church - the most sad and the entry of worship year.
The Crusifiction is an old Orthodox icon which is replicated by Katrin Schwarz in 2004. It is sanctified in Jerusalem, Israel, in the Church of Holy Sepulchre (the Church of Resurrection). Church of the Holy Sepulchre is one of the holiest places in the world for Christians, who come here for 2000 years to visit the place where Jesus of Nazareth died, was buried, and rose back.
