St. John the Evangelist
The Ran Collection
St. John the Evangelist is one of the twelve apostles, a favorite disciple of Jesus Christ. He attended Jesus with all His main life events, such as the resurrection of Christ, his transformation, as well as Jesus' praying of the cup on Thursday, before the Christ's crucifixtion. Dying, Christ commanded John the Divine responsibilities toward the Virgin Mary. Subsequently, John the Evangelist, along with his brother James Jr. and Peter was one of the leaders of the Jerusalem Christian community. According to the legend, the Romans tried to kill him, but no poison, which he drank from the cup (hence the reverence for John the Divine as a patron winemakers and vineries) or boiling oil will not hurt him. There is a traditional viewing, that when he was exiled to the island of Patmos, he had a vision of the ultimate destiny of the world. St. John is the author of the fourth 4 Gospel (Gospel of John), as well as of three messages and the Apocalypse. The Eagle is the emblem of St. John, as a symbol of inspiration and the Holy spirit. It was used by early Christians as the sign of Baptism.
St. John the Evangelist is a patron of theologians, art dealers, painters, compositors, editors, mass media workers, writes, book publishers, and everyone who is dealing with a written word. The patronage of St. John helps against against burns and poisoning.
The icon painting was created in 2005 and is sanctified by the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (the Church of Resurrection). Church of the Holy Sepulchre is one of the holiest places in the world for Christians, who come here for 2000 years to visit the place where Jesus of Nazareth died, was buried, and rose back.
