St. Catherine of Alexandria
The Ran Collection
St. Catherine of Alexandria, Virgin and Martyr, is the patroness of philosophers and preachers, as well as, craftsmen who work with a wheel, archivists, barristers, educators, girls, jurists, librarians, mechanics, millers, nurses and students. She is also a patroness of several countries.
St. Catherine is believed to have been born in Alexandria of a noble family. Converted to Christianity through a vision, she denounced Maxentius for persecuting Christians. Maxentius offered Catherine a royal marriage if she would deny the Faith. Her refusal landed her in prison. While in prison, and while Maxentius was away, Catherine converted Maxentius' wife and two hundred of his soldiers.
Catherine was condemned to death.
The painting has a certificate of traditional Byzantine icon reproduction, with the remark: Nazareth - Jerusalem - Bethlehem - Holy Land 2004. High technique and excellent quality of this small miniature of 2003 make the image of St. Catherine the beautiful example of Katrin Schwarz's art.
