This drawing series was part of a traveling exhibition 2004-2005 titled "On the Rez: Images from Pine Ridge."
The view is from inside a mini-van traveling one of the rez roads (Pine Ridge, SD.) The silhouette frame of the picture is of the window, side panel, and quarter profile of my daughter that make up four distinct lines in framing the composition.
The frame angle suggests motion and the temporary which expresses my own rez experiences - allusive and transient. Within the picture plane I placed the semi-blurred vista to punctuate the ever changing, fleeting views that occur.
The white watercolor paper symbolizes tanned buffalo hide in making a tipi, the canvas refers to later military issue material for making tipis.
