The Gold tree found in the Hawaiian Islands is unique in that just before it reaches full bloom it will loose all of its leaves. The Gold tree is aptly named for its beautiful clusters of deep golden-yellow color set against the contrasting dark brown trunk and branches. You can find these wild trees along the roadside or in deeper forested areas of the islands. They really stand out when in full bloom.
From a lighting perspective I chose to use transparent stones so the gold color has good strength and brawny trunk is pronounced when this piece is back lit with spot lights.
For this piece I chose two different gem stones to get the color gradient I desired; Natural Citrine and Golden Quartz dyed stones. I used 26, 24 and 22 gauge vintage bronze plated wire, which is hand tooled to show shadows in the trunk. I have sprinkled in a few antiqued gold leaves because I wanted to show this tree just before full bloom when it looses all of its leaves. The piece is mounted on finished Manzanita burl wood.
This piece stands upright and approximate dimensions are: 6”W x 8”L x 11½”H.
