Yolanda Piña was born in Havana, Cuba, where she studied at the Fine Arts Academy of San Alejandro. During this time, she participated in several solo and group exhibitions that took place in the island. Yolanda moved to Miami, Fla. in December of 1996, where she became increasingly interested in the sciences. Since then, her aim has been shaped to establish a dialogue between art and science. “Metacognition” (thinking about thinking) is a compilation of works that attempt to integrate art, science, and personal themes. By posing a discourse between art and science, the stage for numerous disputes from renowned scholars for centuries, Yolanda attempts to find reconciliation between the two by perceiving them both, not as opposing poles, but as themes that feed each other into one’s individual perspective. |
