Laura PalmerEdwards Bio
Laura Palmer EdwardsLaura Palmer Edwards, a writer and PR veteran, returned to the studio and art class in 2002 after a 25-year hiatus. She was lured back into painting in response to overwhelming grief and used art as therapy and in the process awakened a long repressed dream.

Strongly influenced by a School of the Museum of Fine Arts class called Art as Process, the philosophy and freedom unleashed an emerging artist: 'The artist sets a process in motion with traditional and non-traditional materials and often repeatedly applies a process, allowing the work to evolve. The means justify the end.' For Palmer Edwards, involvement in ’ Art As Process' set in motion a dramatic life shift where her focus became making art. Her first major sale was during the December Sale Fundraiser at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, generating sales in excess of $1500, and was named a Medici Scholar.

She has produced and sold hundreds of original paintings and mixed media images since 2002. Her works hang in numerous institutional and private collections in the U.S. and abroad including Wellesley College, Novations, Inc, The Denver Post
Newspaper, and in the private collection of Freida Klein and Mitch Kapor, S.F. based philanthropists, and Edmund Barry Gaither, noted art scholar and curator of the Roxbury based National Center of Afro- American Art, among others.

She works from her home studio and shows her work through private showcases, select vendor opportunities, and juried group exhibits. She is interested in representation.

In July 2006 she embarked on a 2-week intensive studio art program in Amsterdam, Holland, with 13 other working artists with instructors from the SMFA in Boston. Upon her return, Palmer Edwards was selected to showcase her work during the founding event of the N.E. Arts Chapter of The Society, a national arts organization supporting emerging African American artists.

June 2007 debuted Life Dance, Laura's solo show at Boston's Gallery at the Piano Factory. The show contained 40 pieces of work. Art Historian and curator Cecilia Levin said, ' One of Laura Palmer Edwards' great talents is her thorough exploration of the potentiality of every aspect...color, line, shape, contour, texture, body language, patterning and the interplay of mixed media. Nothing is ignored, yet in each of her works she magically seams a myriad of elements into bold and enlivened compositions that truly "dance". Her symphonic approach to her art is used primarily in the exaltation of womanhood and to express the need for feminine self-discovery. As a result her canvases resonate with the journey to finding one's true "life dance".As an artist, Palmer Edwards is interested in exploring new media, mono-printmaking, collage and painting.
